I was worried when i bought my bike that I would turn in to 'one of those' MAMILs.. I was determined not to become the cliche.. BUT, a friend persuaded me to get some bib shorts (think mankini with an inbuilt nappy). I wasn't prepared to spend a fortune, so invested in some from Amazon (about £30 I think).. OMG they are the best, super comfy, don't pull on your shoulders, no need for undercrackers, so you get no pinching around the waist.. HIGHLY recommend getting some if you are new to cycling.
Yes, I admit I am a MAMIL, but the comfort outweighs label!
I’d worn Lycra when younger, albeit never a bib. I brought my first bib shorts this year to commute and I have never looked back. If you are after affordable ways in Planet X doesn’t seem to be a bad start (in fact have recently brought their winter bib tights and they should keep me going year round )
Totally agree with you, bro. Lycra shorts are essenrial. In the beginning I didn't want them and rode in footie shorts. Ouch! Hello chafings/ blisters etc.
MAMIL and proud of it!
Oi! Nothing wrong with being a MAMIL, Ben. Why delay the inevitable? 😉
When I started out, my waistline was slowly turning into a coastline so when first donning the lycra I looked like someone had squeezed a raw sausage in a clenched fist! Needless to say Mrs. P didn't find it to be the greatest turn-on she'd ever seen.
But lycra is essential to making a ride more comfortable. There are a few lessons to learn when it comes to peeling on the lycra for the first time. As you've already mentioned, you must go commando, no matter how weird you think this is.
Also... This is NOT a good look 🤦♂️
Avoid these two mishaps and you should be good! 😁
